San Francisco mental health resources that accept Medi-Cal

Plain steps, in plain words

Getting covered should not take a specialist to understand. This is what to do, who to call, and what to have ready.

Find behavioral health services financed by Medi-Cal, including how to connect with urgent support.

San Francisco Behavioral Health Services operates the county mental health plan for Medi-Cal members. Start by contacting the 24/7 Access and Crisis Line to request routine or urgent care.

How to connect

  • Call 415-255-3737 or 888-246-3333 (toll free) for the Behavioral Health Access Line.
  • Explain that you have Medi-Cal or Medi-Cal Managed Care through San Francisco Health Plan or Anthem Blue Cross.
  • Request referrals for outpatient therapy, psychiatry, substance use treatment, or crisis programs that fit your needs.

San Francisco Health Network clinics, Community Behavioral Health Services, and contracted community providers deliver care ranging from counseling to intensive outpatient services. Many offer services in multiple languages.

If you need immediate help

  • Call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or 911 for emergencies.
  • Visit the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Clinic at 1380 Howard Street (walk-ins welcome).
  • For youth, contact the Child Crisis Services line at 415-970-3800.

Managed care members (SF Health Plan or Anthem) can also call the customer service number on the back of their insurance card for help finding network providers.
